About The Event

Patricia Beaman’s World Dance Cultures: From Ritual to Spectacle (Routledge Press, 2017) is based upon the global dance courses she has taught at NYU since 2000, World Dance Cultures investigates dance as a pivotal component in healing, fertility, and religious rituals, death ceremonies and ancestor worship, as well as in theatrical entertainment. This textbook examines how constellations of history, politics, economics, and societal/religious values have impacted dance, and an important theme is focusing upon the fragility and resilience of cultural traditions.

Please come for drinks, snacks, signings, readings (short!), and performances by stellar artists in bharatanatyam, noh, flamenco, and Balinese dance. The book will be offered at a discount, but no pressure-- just come celebrate!
